Dado Finishes in Sweet Sixteen of National Discussion Meet

Ethan Dado from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities finished in the Sweet Sixteen of the National Collegiate Discussion Meet at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Conference in Kansas City. He was among the 53 in this year’s competition.

Dado advanced to the AFBF contest after capturing top honors at the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Collegiate Discussion Meet in November. This year’s runner-up was Katie Schmitt who also advanced to the national contest and competed this weekend.
Contestants are judged on their basic knowledge of critical farm issues, and their ability to exchange ideas and information in a setting aimed at cooperative problem solving.

All of the Collegiate Discussion Meet competitors in the AFBF YF&R contest received a $250 scholarship from the CHS Foundation. The state winner and runner-up receive an all-expense paid trip to the AFBF YF&R Conference from the Minnesota Farm Bureau (MFB) Foundation sponsored by Christensen Farms and a $250 scholarship from the MFB Foundation sponsored by Gislason & Hunter.

Dado is attending the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and is from Amery, Wisconsin majoring in animal science and agricultural education. Schmitt is attending the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and is from Rice, Minnesota majoring in animal science.

Eight Farm Bureau members from Minnesota are among over 1,100 Farm Bureau members attending the AFBF YF&R Conference. The conference which runs from February 12-15 also features seminars and tours.
