Statement by MFBF President Kevin Paap Regarding Passage of H.R. 5078 WOTUS Regulatory Overreach Protection Act

“Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives stood with farmers and ranchers with passage of H.R. 5078 to once again tell the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) they cannot and do not have control over all waters. We sincerely thank Minnesota Representatives Walz, Kline, Paulsen, Bachmann and Peterson for voting in support of the final bill. Passage of H.R. 5078 demonstrates clear frustration with the overreach of EPA’s proposed Water of the U.S. rule.”

“Minnesota Farm Bureau will continue to work to stop EPA’s proposed rule so that farmers, ranchers and landowners can continue to care for their land without overregulation. We encourage the United States Senate to take quick action on passing companion legislation to send a strong message back to EPA. Until they withdraw their proposed rule, we must continue to send comments to the public docket sharing our story to the EPA on how constricting these regulations would be on our ability to farm, perform normal land improvement activities and continue conservation efforts. We will ditch this rule.”
