Restarting the Conversation With Consumers

In “Defined by critics, big ag restarts conversation,” AP writer Mary Clare Jalonick described how farmers today are increasingly defending their businesses to the American public. Conversations about traditional agriculture are more critical than ever of farmers, with genetically modified crops, overuse of hormones and antibiotics, inhumane treatment of animals and over-processed foods among the hot topics, Jalonick noted.

“We’ve been late to the game and we realized that if we don’t start sharing, people are going to start forming opinions about you,” said Chris Chinn, a Missouri hog farmer and former chair of American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee, in the article.
